What is argan oil?

Argan oil comes from the fruit of the argan tree, a legendary tree that grows on the other side of the Mediterranean, in Morocco. More specifically, it grows on the Moroccan High Atlas, as well as in the semi-desert areas of the country, from Safi in the North to the furthest reaches of the Sahara in the South. It is part of the Sapotaceae family, scientific name Argania spinosa. Argan oil is extracted from the kernels of the fruit of the argan tree, and has been for thousands of years. Once turned into oil, it is particularly recognizable by its golden or honey color. Argan oil has always been used by Berber women for its miraculous properties, both on hair and skin.
